Birthday in Style

My birthday was postponed for a couple of days and celebrated in style in the Hunter Valley Wine Country region. For the same price as a dorm bed in a Sydney hostel we got a last minute deal in a spa cabin in a quaint vineyard in the heart of Hunter Valley.

We spent 2 days tasting wines, cheeses, chocolate, fudge, olive oils, olives and even beers, had a BBQ on our balcony and watched Neighbours, what more could one ask for on her fake birthday!? We spent nothing on the wine tasting and after tasting some fabulous wines we headed for Coles (supermarket) and bought a $5 bottle.. is that cheating or just plain cheap? Relaxed on our balcony watching the wild kangaroos hopping around with an amazing sunset in the background. Kangaroos are still a novelty, but we’ve heard they will soon be pests to us and also a danger as they can jump in front of your car and kill you by coming through the windscreen – nice and light reading for you today!

Leaving this beautiful place behind we head for the coast today hoping to catch up with the sunshine Australia is so famous for. Since we’ve arrived in Oz the weather has been somewhat unpredictable and the sun hasn’t ever lasted more than a couple of hours with showers in between (sound familiar?).  We’ve been told the sun will be a constant feature in the next few weeks with over 30 degree heat so in a few weeks I’ll probably be complaining and hoping to be home playing in the snow, but for now I’ll keep wishing for those sunny days!
